Forest Management Planning Process

The Minister of Fisheries, Forestry and Agriculture is seeking input on the planning, development and use of the forest resources of the province located in planning Zone 1, Zone 2, Zone 3, Zone 7 and Forest Management Districts 21 and 22.

We Want to Hear From You

To inform the development of the Five-Year Forest Operating Plans, the Department of Fisheries, Forestry and Agriculture is seeking input from the public and forest stakeholders. Feedback can be provided online by completing the form below for your area, in writing, or by telephone appointment.

The deadline for feedback is August 27, 2021

Five Year Forest Management Plans:

Zone 1 – FMD 01
Geographic Location: Avalon Peninsula, east of Come by Chance.

Zone 2 – FMD 02 and 03
Geographic Location: Long Harbour River, Northwest River, and Terra Nova National Park in the west to Come By Chance in the east and includes all of the Bonavista Peninsula, Burin Peninsula, and all the islands in Placentia Bay.

Zone 3 – FMD 04, 05, 06 and 08
Geographic Location: Extends from Seal Bay in the northwest, easterly along the coast to New-Wes-Valley in the northeast, then southerly to Terra Nova National Park in the east and then west along the northern edge of the Bay Du’ Nord Wilderness Area to the general area of the Bay D’Espoir Highway near Great Gull Lake.  Includes the communities of Gambo, Gander, Twillingate, Lewisporte and Botwood.

Zone 7 – FMD 09 and 16
Geographic Location: Deer Lake in the west to Cat Arm in the north and includes all of the Baie Verte Peninsula. Includes the communities of Deer Lake, Hampden, Sops Arm, Springdale, and Baie Verte.

FMD 21 (Labrador)
Geographic Location: Located in Labrador and is bounded to the north by Hawke Bay and Hawke Bay Brook, with the boundary following a general westerly direction until it meets Paradise River. To the west along Paradise and St. Pauls Rivers and the Quebec-Labrador boarder to the Strait of Belle Isle. To the east and south by the Labrador Sea, including all islands to Hawke Bay.

FMD 22 (Labrador)
Located in Western Labrador, bounded by the Quebec-Labrador border. It is also bounded by Forest Management Districts 19, 23 and 24. The district is large, representing approximately 8 million hectares.

 1.Complete a Public Consultation Response Form.  Please be sure to indicate the specific zone or Forest Management District.
