The humane treatment of animals is the Provincial Government’s top priority when enacting animal health and protection legislation in Newfoundland and Labrador. Strong federal and provincial legislation helps ensure the safety and well-being of all animals.The Animal Health and Protection Act was enacted into legislation in 2012 and reviewed with public consultation in 2017. The Provincial Government is committed to working with the public and stakeholders to review the Act to ensure it continues to reflect the highest possible standards for animal health and protection.
As part of a review process, the Department of Fisheries, Forestry and Agriculture invited stakeholders and members of the public to provide input on the Animal Health and Protection Act and Regulations.
